FAQ

What is the purpose of the SETI Simulator?
While it is hoped that this project will provide data on some of the challenges of communicating with extraterrestrial beings and provide a vehicle for testing communication software, it is mostly just for fun.

Is this simulation associated with a formal SETI project?
No, this project is the work of a SETI enthusiast.

How does it simulate extraterrestrial communications?
This information is purposefully being withheld to make the simulation as real as possible. All of your information will have to be determined by the messages you receive.

How will I know if I have received a new message?
You will receive an E-mail indicating that a new message has been received. You will login to the website to see the new message along with a log of all previous messages.

Will I be able to send as well as receive messages?
Yes, you can send messages but you need to decide if you are willing to take the risk of attracting unwanted attention before you know the motives of the extraterrestrial beings.

When does the simulation actually start?
The first round of the simulation starts in mid-January. Additional rounds will be scheduled at a later date.

How long will the simulation last?
There will be three rounds each lasting different length. The length is being withheld from participants to enhance the simulation. All participants who complete the self-evaluation and survey will receive an explanation of the messages they received.

When can I expect to receive my first message and how long will it take between messages?
This is purposefully unknown to enhance the reality of the simulation.
